About us
Who we are
Reason Australia grew out of the Global Atheist Convention that took place in Melbourne in March 2010. At that time, it became extraordinarily clear that there are many dedicated and energetic free thinking groups and individuals across Australia who want to see an improvement in the quality of public debate and public policy and who are committed to the use of evidence-based reasoning, the protection and promotion of universal human rights and the exposure of unjustified claims that have the capacity to cause harm.
Reason Australia’s mission is to strengthen and support a network of those freethinking communities across Australia and, by doing so, provide an effective umbrella vehicle for driving related policy changes across all levels of government.
Reason Australia bases its policies on universal human values. We:
-
believe in human dignity and the values of respect and compassion in our treatment of one another;
-
support social cooperation within communities;
-
consider that human endeavour should focus on making life better for all of us, with due regard to our fellow sentient creatures and the natural environment; and
-
assert that humanity must take responsibility for its own destiny.
How we operate
Reason Australia is a not for profit organisation funded by entirely members' fees and donations. Reason Australia's objects and constitution can be found here.
